Haiku to the Sea Goddess and Her Friends
Begun as fingers
of Sedna, the Inuit,
broken one by one.
Raven’s coming close
fear possessing like an imp
ice sea without life.
Clutching the kayak
futile try with no fingers
gradually changing.
Anthropoid digits
companions to the goddess
swimming to her call.
Hairy bear like pups
pinnipeds just swim ashore
observed by great white.
Half terrestrial
colors of the earth for sure
brown, black, tan, white, gray.
Systematized float
dive into the clear blue deep
independently.
Of one mind they drift
a raft of distinctive logs
till the ocean chides.
Class, not for these young
solely searching for a school
poles to lie around.
Peaceful in their plunge
barking lyrics to her songs
warming signals war.
First to die by spear
heavily exploited whelp,
white fur, lady’s love.
Niviaqsiaq,
Goddess of the frigid deep
Bless your pinnipeds.

Powerful, playful images! I love these two the best.
Of one mind they drift
a raft of distinctive logs
till the ocean chides.
Class, not for these young
solely searching for a school
poles to lie around.
I hope to read more soon...Claudia
